The Imagination Station
Children’s Summer Arts Camp
Ages 7 – 14
August 6 to 31, 2007
Imagine This! - Session A
August 6 – August 10
August 20 – August 24
Get Into The Act!
Explore the world of dramatic arts in this week-long adventure that includes tableaux, mime, choral techniques and movement in dramatic play situations. Students will work together in groups and as individuals, exploring characters and situations. It’s a great way for children to develop an understanding of themselves, their environment and challenge themselves in ways of thinking and feeling. We will lead them through a program that supports self-esteem and confidence through imagination. You never know who they’ll become or what they’ll express!
What Lies Beneath!
Take a guided adventure walk through Elora’s history with resident historian Al Koop. Visit the past in the pioneer graveyard, and listen as he brings history to life through the stories and characters that built this town. Children will participate in dramatic exercises and art projects that will explore the lives and times of our original settlers.
Imagine That - Session B
August 13 – August 17
August 27 – August 31
Whatever Moves You!
Discover the unique language of movement! Explore creative dance and dramatic performance to communicate without words. Children will explore the elements of movement through characters and story. The rich history of Elora will be the focus of the students work, in both group and individual components. We’ll be bringing history to life!
What Lies Within!
Discover the secrets and legends that lie deep within the Elora Gorge, with guided adventures through the rocks and caves. Learn about the rich history of the aboriginal people and settlers that once inhabited this rough terrain. Together with the stories of the past and the imaginations of the students, there is still more to discover in the heart of the Gorge.
The Idea Keeper
At the beginning of each session, our students will be given a personal journal – a place to log their ideas, the moments that inspired them, and a spot to remember the fun they’ve had at the Imagination Station. They’ll decorate these keepsakes as momentos to take home and treasure. Each day, they will have the opportunity to do writing exercises and express themselves in their own unique voice.
Centre Stage
Every Friday, at the end of a session, families will be invited to attend a special presentation that will showcase the work and discoveries of our students. We’ll have performances and the opportunity for the children to celebrate their achievements.
