Real Ranch. Real Values. Real Change.

Few images capture the imagination more strongly than that of the American Cowboy - this powerful icon of the American West captivates and inspires teens who have become jaded and hostile toward authority. The Ranch setting takes defiant teens out of their comfort zone and reminds them that success is achieved through teamwork and cooperation, not through entitlement and manipulation. They learn that while they might feel entitled to get what they want, when they want it, in the real world rewards come through dedication and hard work.

I was placed at TAR in 2006. It was the worst time of my life. This place is a prison where the staff uses mind manipulation to control the children. Things that they do in this place would be considered cruel and unusual in a Prisoner of War camp. For example, children are forced to stand or sit in a 2 by 2 meter circle of rocks outside, rain or snow. They are unable to lay down, or do basic hygiene for that matter. Children are not aloud to shower, brush their teeth, or even wash their face for 3-7 days. During this time, children sleep on a wooden board, with no pillow or mattress. Children are given a sleeping bag with a broken zipper to purposely disturb their sleep as much as possible. If a child is to bundle up their jacket to use it as a pillow, severe consequences were given. I don't know how this "camp" (or prison in my opinion) is able to stay open. The staff there will also degrade the children, and make them feel like they are worthless. The children are forced to work long days keeping the Turn About Ranch running. (They love the free labor) Do not be fooled, it is not character building work, 10 hour days bucking hay in 120 degree weather is simply beneficial to the Ranch, not the children. In fact, I personally was on medication that specified on the bottle that I was unable to go into sunlight for extended periods of time. No accommodations were made for me, even when my skin was covered in blisters and I was in tears. The only thing I received was a " shut up and work harder" from the staff. This facility is extremely abusive to children, and I would recommend it be shut down immediately. They claim it is a Christian program, yet there was more lies, deceit and hurt here than I had seen in my drug using years. They staff also would argue about who was to take the children to church on Sunday, as none of them wanted to go. What does that teach the children about Christians? They say this program is therapeutic, please parents, be wise! This place is full of lies, deceit, and abuse. Don't let this camp rob you of $30,000.00 to use and abuse your child!!!!!
