MarineQuest is the "hands-on, feet-wet" marine and environmental education outreach program for UNCW. UNCW is a five minute drive from local beaches. For the past 28 years, MarineQuest has been offering the highest quality summer academic enrichment camps for children ages 5 - 17. Outdoor habitat exploration, "lab" activities, creative arts and age appropriate activities are part of every academically sound camp. We invite you to enroll your child in one of our unique camps where learning and enjoyment meet at the edge of the sea!

Ages 5 – 6: Sea Squirts
Your little squirts will enjoy our fun-filled camp for budding scientists interested in the field of "ickyology". They'll explore different marine habitats and meet some of the shelly, fishy, crusty and squishy critters that live there.
Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 11:45 am
One week camps: June 15 - Aug. 7.
$135 per week of half days.
Ages 6 – 7: Sea Safari
Send your young adventurer on an exciting Sea Safari through the four habitats of a barrier island. They’ll hunt for the wild animals and plants that survive in each habitat and discover the 'big game" of our marine environment.
Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 11:45 am
One week camps: June 15 - Aug.7.
$150 per week of half days.
Ages 7 – 8: Sea Camp
Send your young explorer on a true treasure hunt to discover the riches of our local barrier islands. Follow a secret map through the beach, dunes, maritime forest and marsh to find the true plant and animal treasures that inhabit our marine environment.
Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
One week camps: June 15 - Aug.7.

Ages 9 - 10: Sea SI
Your young detectives will be hot on the trail of a master environmental criminal tracking him through our local habitats. Campers will spend the week using their CSI forensic skills to decipher clues and collect evidence to solve crimes against the environment in this ecological mystery!

Ages 11 - 12: Coast Trek
Send your pre-teen explorers back in time to the age of the giant prehistoric shark Carcharodon megalodon to discover how the North Carolina coast has changed over the years. While time-traveling through our coastal habitats back to the future, Trekkies will experience first-hand how the forces of nature have created the coastline that we see today.

Ages 12-16: ArtSea **NEW for 2009**
Campers will focus on different artistic interpretations of marine plants, animals and habitats. Each day campers will explore local habitats to garner inspiration and then spend time in the art studio creating their own masterpieces. Guest artists will instruct students in different mediums and share how their own work inspires others to appreciate and protect the marine environment. Students will display their work on the final day in our ArtSea Gallery show.

Ages 13-14: Ocean Lab
If your teen is tired of reading, writing, and arithmetic they just might want to try their hand at one of the four fields of marine science: biology, chemistry, geology, and physics. Each day of this exciting camp your junior scientists will explore a different field using that great big outdoor lab we call an ocean.

Ages 15-16: Camp O.C.E.A.N.S.
Think you want to be a marine biologist? How about an oceanographer? Maybe you prefer marine technology specialist? You can check out your career options at our camp designed to let you step into the swim fins of different types of marine scientists and gain some first-hand experience using the kinds of instruments and ROV technology their research requires.

Ages 15-16: Camp O.C.E.A.N.S. Gulf Stream
Our popular camp O.C.E.A.N.S. now condensed to a one-week camp designed for commuter campers. Come check out your career options as a marine biologist, an oceanographer or a marine technology specialist. Our camp is designed to let you step into the swim fins of different types of marine scientists and gain some first-hand experience using the kinds of instruments and ROV technology their research requires.

Ages 17: Oceans 17 **NEW for 2009**
Oceans 17 provides serious marine science enthusiasts with the chance to conduct experimental research and participate in community service that benefits our marine environment. Campers will spend three weeks collecting and interpreting data that supports current research being conducted by scientists at UNCW. In between their research, kayaking, surfing, boogie boarding and other fun stuff, campers will complete a community service project that improves the quality of our local marine habitats.

Ages 12-16: Shore Shot
Are you a fan of Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel? If so, our camp for aspiring videographers might appeal to you. Document environmental topics related to our marine habitats using digital SLR cameras, binoculars, professional digital video cameras and digital camcorders to create your own public service announcement.
