DescriptionBack to top

Urban Roots Garden Classrooms is a Reno-based non-profit committed to changing the way kids EAT and LEARN!
During the school year, we work with local schools to weave garden education into their classrooms. Summers we work on our green thumbs at the River School Farm.
Kids, ages 3-12, can join us as we plant hydroponic lettuce, splice tomato plants, cultivate garden beds, cook eggs in compost (but not eat them!), prepare our harvest in the kitchen, and celebrate at the table! Campers will get to know each other and their meals through a series of teambuilding, gardening and cooking activities.

Sprout School Day Camp Ages 3 to 5
Preschool is a wonderful time to discover all that the garden has to offer. Sprouts enjoy garden day camp through fun-filled sensory activities and storytelling led by Urban Roots staff and parent volunteers. Both Literacy in the Garden and Farmer Grows a Rainbow curriculum are used for this energetic and whimsical camp.
Garden Club Day Camp Ages 6 to 12
Growing and eating food is the focus here. Campers get to design, prepare and plant their own garden beds, all while learning about what makes a garden ecosystem work. Grain grinding, honey extraction and cooking are all apart of this fun, outdoor experience!
EcoArt+Gardening Day Camp Entering grades 1 through 3
Nature is the ultimate inspiration for creativity in this camp that combines learning about our food with nature-based art projects. Themed days are spent digging in the gardens in the morning and letting imaginations run wild in the art studio after lunch. Chickens, goats, ducks and even honey bees teach alongside Urban Roots and River School instructors at this beautiful farm right on the Truckee River!
