Welcome to the Westwood Prep Summer Camp. The staff at Westwood Prep Summer Camp is delighted to provide your child with a safe and fun-filled summer. Our camp is designed to meet the needs and interest of all children in addition to expanding and stimulating their physical, intellectual and creative horizons. A World of Words
Grades K-8
This course reviews the language arts curriculum
of grades K-8 by emphasizing the reading of literature
- poetry, prose, plays - and the process of creative
writing appropriate for each grade level.
Phonics, vocabulary building, and reading comprehension
are emphasized. The course reinforces skills for those
who did well in the previous year, as well as strengthen skills for those who need extra practice in preparation for the upcoming year. A diagnostic test is administered at the beginning of the session to assess the needs of the class, and the teacher then plans the curriculum accordingly.
Mathematics
A World of Numbers
Grades K-5
This course is a review of basic mathematics for grades K-5. The emphasis is on logic and reasoning as well as concepts using mathematical theories such as:
• Regrouping and borrowing with two-digit numbers and three-digit addition and subtraction.
• Story problems
• Measurement
• Open-ended questions
• Multiplication and division problems
• Statistics and probability
• Geometric terms and problem solving
• Algebraic and function problems

A World of Numbers
Grade 6
For students entering Grade 6. Designed as a preview of mathematics for students entering Grade 6 in the Fall. This course builds on the knowledge of the previous elementary levels, focusing on problem-solving strategies across all the curricular areas. Emphasis is placed on student-generated problems, problem-solving, critical thinking, intuitive thinking, and open-ended questions.
Getting Ready for Pre-Algebra
Grades 6-7
Designed for students entering Grades 6 or 7 who have not yet taken a formal Pre-Algebra class. This course concentrates on building basic skills through developing mental math skills and practicing study methods, and introduces Pre-Algebra concepts to establish experience with new concepts.

Grades 1-3

Beginning Spanish
Grades 4-8
"¡Magnifico!," is what students say after taking this class, which teaches the fundamentals fo the Spanish language. Emphasis is placed on practical vocabulary, useful phrases, and the ability to understand, read, write and speak simple Spanish.
