The focus of Mowglis Yearling Program is for young men to gain a basic understanding in adventure sports and leadership.  We do this over the course of three weeks in a small group almost completely outdoors.  It is an opportunity for these young men to gain serious outdoor skills while learning from natural consequences and becoming stronger individuals who evolve into a high performing group.  This is not as easy task for any group of people.  However, at Mowglis we are hardly just any group of people.  The Lakes and Mountains of Hew Hampshire is the perfect setting for the Yearling’s activities.  The boys will come together after ending the school year, to experience Mowglis is a new way.  Not as campers or staff but as a group seeking an adventure.

There are four main activities during the three week program in which you can experience.  You will learn the tools necessary for safe top-rope rock climbing.  Proper anchor set ups, how to belay, and different climbing techniques to successfully complete the routes.  There is also the possibility of doing a multi pitch in small groups, where the team would climb the full length of the rope several times over up a rock face at Rumney or Cathedral Ledge. On the Deerfield River in Mass you will gear up and hit the river for four days of whitewater kayaking.  On the river you will gain confidence and stability in paddling your boat through the rapids, learning to surf waves, catch eddies, and feel the shock of flipping and learning to Eskimo roll back upright.  Mud will fly and sweat will drip cursing downhill on a mountain bike on one of the many local trails, with a good chance of finding a great swimming hole.  No Mowglis experience would be complete without getting up into the White Mountains.  The Yearlings go out for four to five days and get onto some of the most spectacular trails available.   In addition to learning about and experiencing these sports, group dynamics, and leadership the participants will gain valuable understanding on safe travel in the backcountry.  The Yearling Program will open new doors of opportunity in the outdoors but will also build a foundation of confidence when it comes to trying new things or solving problems back home, at school, or work.

The yearling Program allows boys who have sports of other summer activities as they progress though High School the chance to still come for part of the season and go on an amazing adventure with old and new friends.  The program drawls most of the participants from our previous campers and junior staff however, it is open to any boy 15-17 years old.
