Riverside, known as the City of Arts and Innovation, has a thriving downtown full of cultural events, family friendly attractions, and artistic experiences. This community also offers plenty of camps for children throughout fall and winter with holiday themed crafts and festivities. There's even an Art Masters class, where students will learn about Van Gough and Picasso, while making their own wonders. Check out our online directory to find the best camp in Riverside that is perfectly suited for your child.

Enjoy seeing your child create pottery, 2D and 3D design art, and learn color theory in kid-focused activities at the Riverside Art Museum’s after-school program or art education workshops for Girl and Boy Scouts. This museum hopes to instill a lifelong love of the arts in its students and has art educators from all over the world with diverse backgrounds, teaching drawing and sculpture to teens and hands-on mixed media for the young, budding artist. If you happen to be in town, the first Sunday of every month has free family programs for children and teens, which change seasonally, and will be sure to delight all ages.

“Tour and Taste” the California Citrus State Historic Park and encourage children to learn more about the booming citrus industry. Exhibits inside the packinghouse will tell the story of the famous Washington Navel Tree and how most of the navel trees in California originated from this tree. Families can enjoy the view of the orange groves and have a picnic near the gazebo. Kids will learn why citrus farming became the "second gold rush" and how it made Riverside such an important city. After camp, consider a bike ride on one of the trails or indulge in other juicy varietals, like grapefruit, mandarins, blood oranges, and kumquats. Best of all, this park is absolutely free!

Get to know Riverside and check out the ArtsWalk, on the first Thursday of every month, where kids can learn traditional dances or arts, like weaving small rugs or bracelets. Seeing all the eclectic art can be a source of excitement for a child in an arts camp and once your family is done, you can wander the downtown area, eat at one of the many restaurants, or go shopping for trinkets to bring back home. If your child wants to see more artistic expression, head over to this art exhibit (free of charge) called Art Under The Umbrellas at Old Town La Quinta, a quaint colonial Mexican-style main street full of boutiques and cafes.
