Summer and Winter Camps

Spanish Immersion Summer Camp 2024

Kids Ages 5-11

We are excited to announce our Camp Lango 2024! Camp Lango began in 2010 (See all years of camp here) and continues growing in relevance, quality, and popularity today. With us, campers understand the language, speak it, and ultimately… love it and live it! Students get to spend their summertime having fun, being engaged, and taking pretend trips to different destinations of Latin America and Europe. At Camp Lango each week is a new destination. Without lost luggage and jet lag, we are able to "visit" these places and learn about their traditions, recreation, and cuisine. Each week ends with water games for campers and a presentation for parents, family, and friends. Join us!

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

This year, we'll be taking our camp to a great location very close to our school in Irvine. We'll be at New Horizon Community Center on 10 Marconi, Irvine CA 92618. We'll keep our current location for students who want to do a half day camp and are in either basic or advanced levels. New Horizon is a state of the art facility conveniently located at the intersection of the 5 and 405 Freeways. New Horizon School and Community Center offers ample classrooms, an amazing athetic field, a gymnasium, an outdoor basketball court, and a patio/courtyard for our enjoyment throughout the days of camp. Our teachers cannot wait to see you there! Find more details of the location and instructions for parents in the "Welcome to Camp" packet that you'll receive by mid May.

Grouping

Group Cosmo 1 (Basic): Ideal for campers between 5 and 7 years old who have had limited exposure to Spanish.

Group Cosmo 2 (Intermediate): Ideal for campers between 6 and 8 with significant exposure to Spanish by taking Lango classes for at least 2 years and 7 weeks of camps,  going to immersion schools, or speaking the language at home. New students need to be assessed in order to be considered for this group.  Students must have reached age 5 by June 15.

Parents agree to purchase minimum 2 weeks and all weeks chosen need to be consecutive. Parents agree to abstain from registering to start the last 3 weeks of the program. While each week is different from each other, the daily routine does build up. Registrating early in the program ensures normal and progressive advancement. Registering after week 5 makes catching up a bit harder, not impossible, just harder. Please call us for more info.

Group Wen (Basic/Intermediate): Ideal for campers between 8 and 11 years old who have not had significant language exposure and for campers who have had exposure and understand some of the language, but do not speak it. This level is a foundational level that helps students go from not speaking to speaking, reading and writing in Spanish with more confidence.

Group Lucia (Advanced) : Ideal for campers between 8 and 11 years old who have had minimum 4 years of  classes between Lango and Colega ones or language exposure at home or at an immersion school. New students need to be assessed to make sure this is the right level for them as this is an advanced level. Students need to have a good grasp of the language and be able to express themselves using simple or complex sentences.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SUMMER CAMP

It's important to emphasize that we are not a daycare in Spanish. We are a language school interested in acquiring students of families who care about language learning, for whom we have created a comprehensive, fun, and accelerated program in the summer. As in everything, the more time and effort you put into something the better the results will be. Registrations of 2 consecutive weeks are the minimum requirement, but know that the results are very limited. Week one (no matter when you start) is a cultural shock everybody needs to go through and in week second kids are a little more adjusted but still have a long ways to go. Two weeks are never enough to understand and converse in Spanish, but at least four or five are. We do all we can and when parents are committed and as passionate as we are, magical things happen at camp! Parents of kids who haven't had much exposure, are encouraged to purchase weeks early rather than later in the program. NO week is a prerequisite for the next, in fact, all topics are different, but for those who have stayed longer, we do revisit topics from other weeks and knowledge does build up. For this reason, we do not allow registrations that start the last 2 weeks of the program.

When you bring a child to us, you are entrusting your child to experienced professionals in the area of language teaching. Cristina holds a Bachelor in Modern Language Teaching, a Specialization in Bilingual Education, a MA in English and World Literature and is a credentialled Spanish teacher. Additionally, she is the mom of 3 fully bilingual kids. She hires only the best teachers with a genuine love for Spanish and for kids, classroom experience, and may times, they are moms of bilingual kid as well. We all walk the walk you have started or are about to start!

Summer camp is our favorite time of the year not only because it's so nice out, but also because it's very gratifying to see how much campers accomplish in only 8 weeks. In fact, a camper is able to achieve in 8 weeks, what a student at Lango accomplishes taking one class a week for a year and a half or so. That's how good we are, or better yet, that's how good those little minds are given the intensity, input, and motivation.

Every week we give our campers a new book with all the activities we learn throughout the week. They receive it on Monday and they take it home on Fridays so parents can review concepts at home. Every day we work on a different project (crafts, cooking, building projects) and kids bring those projects home. Ask your camper about the craft; we are sure they'll have a great story to tell!

Safety is first for us. During bathroom visits no child of ours goes to the bathroom alone and nobody is unsupervised. We all go in groups with the teachers. At times when it's not a collective bathroom break students go with Maestra Cristina herself or her assistant. We can assure you they are safe with us

OUR CURRICULUM

Each year we offer new and attracting themes for all campers. The curriculum is tailored to the students linguistic needs and targets the 4 skills of the language: speaking, reading, writing, listening. We also add geographical, historical and ludic components to the program to enrich each and every camper's experience and to not only learn but ultimately love our language and culture.

Each book is created by us and tailored to the specific needs of our campers' ages. Each book has about 15 pages and it comprises all the content of the week (theme, destination, a fun page, additional vocabulary). The final page of the book tells parents all the questions students are able to respond to and the vocabulary campers know by the end of the week. Collect all books this summer!

 CAMP LANGO-SPANISH

Week 1: June 17 - June 21 Mario comes to Camp Lango! - Llega Mario a Camp Lango

In this week teachers and students will be transported into the world of Super Mario and follow Mario's adventures through imaginative play, storytelling, creative movement, dance and arts & crafts. Campers will get to dance to the iconic tunes from the game, learn fun and energetic dance pieces, participate in exciting obstacle courses, and be a part of entertaining storytelling sessions. We’ll learn about all the characters of this iconic game and teach the students how to describe them by using adjectives in Spanish. We can’t wait to see all the kids can achieve in only one week as they start saying their first words and sentences in the foreign language. Be prepared to collect coins and take advantage of special powerups all week long. There’s no better way to kick-off this year’s summer camp. Join us!

Destination of the Week: Espana

Week 2:  June 24 - June 28 It's Safari Time! - Es hora de Safari

Costa Rica is a real hotspot for Latin American wildlife and it is right here on our own continent! The word safari immediately inspires African soil, and yes, an African safari sounds pretty enticing, but the blazing hot not so much. Instead, why not immerse ourselves in Costa Rica’s tropical paradise and attend a parade of animal varieties? By the way, have you seen Costa Rica on a map? It’s a teeny, tiny country. It makes up 0.1% of the world’s landmass, but it contains a whopping 5% of the world’s biodiversity. That’s incredible! Who wants to jump on our LangoKids safari bus? We will be taking you on a fascinating array of activities and lessons to bring alive the magic of a safari. You'll see and learn about exotic animals, wild life and its inhabitants, and experience a safari adventure. While we may not be able to hop on a plane to Costa Rica with our campers, we can certainly foster the adventurous spirit in them. Chameleons, lemurs, crocodiles, and monkeys are waiting for you to put your hat on and explore their territory!

Destination of the Week: Costa Rica

Week 3: July 1 - July 5  Party in the USA! - Fiesta en USA

Yes, this is the week we honor our country and all it represents and stands for. We need to celebrate because it’s the birthday of the USA. This holiday marks the day our great country was founded as a nation, a nation that influences the world and serves as an example of democracy and freedom for all. The Fourth of July sure is a wonderful time to celebrate family, community and the things that make our country special, but should also be a great opportunity to get creative with the kiddos. At Camp Lango, we have planned a really fun and educational week to teach children what it means to be American. We’ll show them a kid-friendly version of the Declaration of Independence, the quintessential American document. Campers will enjoy some outdoor fun and do relay races, a water balloon fight between Americans and the British and finally, we’ll do fun flag activities and learn about the heroes that helped shape this great country. It’s short week but we’ll learn a lot from beginning to end! Join us!

Destination of the Week: Boston

Week 4July 8 - July 12 Welcome to the Wild West! - Bienvenidos al Salvaje Oeste!

Calling all cowboys and cowgirls this week! Join us this week to step back in time to the thrilling era of the Wild West, where cowboys roamed the vast landscapes, outlaws ruled the dusty trails, and adventure awaited at every turn. Mining and Farming were the main way of sustenance for the American Indian tribes and the new settlers who saw this vast area as a land of opportunity. As it’s expected, conflict is at the center of this story but we’ll keep it light for our campers. They’ll be exposed to some Native American Folklore this week for a taste of the past and we’ll be introduced to the joy of line dancing as we play some upbeat Country Western music to teach them directions in Spanish and simple line dancing steps. This provides a lively and fun outlet for energy while immersing campers in the cultural aspects for the Wild West.

Destination of the Week: California

Week 5: July 15 - July 19 Hello, My name is Martin Luther King Jr. - Hola Me Llamo Martin Luther King Jr.

Following our series of Hello, My name is…we have the pleasure to bring Martin Luther King to life this week. I hope you noticed the thread here. It starts with a week of the birthday of the US (1700's) followed by a week about the Wild West (1800's) and then a week to honor a true American thinker and hero who changed the direction of history in this country (1900’s). It doesn’t help that we are history and world literature fans! We always look for ways to teach important old things to our new generations so they don’t forget and so they can’t say they didn’t know. We want to instill in them the sense of love for a country and for each other. We’ll also talk about the qualities of a leader and all the things that make us all special, equal and unique; regardless of colors, creeds or beliefs.

Destination of the Week: Colombia

Week 6: July 22 - July 26 Pajama Party - Fiesta de Pijamas

This week we are all taking it easy and given permission to be lazy. Every day of the week kids can do or bring a new thing for show and tell. At the end of the week when the pajamas are on and the lights are dimmed, it’s time to pick out some Spanish kid-favorite books and cozy up with them. It will be fun to turn our classroom into a maze of tents and pillows for everybody’s enjoyment. Kids will never forget the fun they had at Camp Lango’s first Pajama party!

Destination of the Week: Panama

Week 7: July 31- August 2 Soccer Fever

We don’t know about you, but we are soccer fanatics and can’t wait to celebrate the joy that this sport gives the world; especially now that we know that some 2026 World Cup games will be held here in CA. It appears that we are not the only ones as we hear that Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. That’s right! Soccer today is the most popular and watched game on earth. This week we are going to the country that knows the most about soccer, the ones that have been world champions 3 times! Do you know what country is that? If you said Argentina, where the great Messi is from, your guess is correct! If you ask me what my favorite sport is I’d say football, and by that I mean soccer. Confused? Soccer or Football? Soccer is known as football throughout most of the world. In North America, however, the word soccer is used to avoid confusion with American football. Your child will not want to miss the fun, the physical activity, and the learning this week. It’s also the last week of camp and a HUGE surprise waits for all the campers that have completed the week program. See you there!

Destination of the Week: Argentina

Week 8: August 5 to August 9 Aventura en la Ciudad/Adventure in The City (Week offered only at LangoKids Irvine) Limited Spaces

At our camp site, this week we're off to start an adventure with the LangoKids in the city as we also dive into some lessons in Latin American art and culture! Crafts, art, literature and performances by Lango Campers are on display at the week's end. Don't miss out! We'll have a Carnival that celebrates all city workers, try out Latin dances, learn three basic salsa steps, and then choreograph our own dance. Could there be a better way to learn Spanish?

Destination of the Week: Cuba
