The American Shakespeare Center Theatre Camp is an intensive summer training program for students aged 13-18 that enhances campers’ theatre performance talents and develops essential college and career-building skills. In a nurturing and collaborative environment, campers participate in master classes, rehearsals, and attend performances at the Blackfriars Playhouse, the world’s only re-creation of Shakespeare’s indoor theatre. Students rehearse a play by Shakespeare or one of his contemporaries to be performed on the final day of each session at the Blackfriars Playhouse. Campers’ work in rehearsals and classes evolves directly from the tools and conditions that Shakespeare’s own company would have used, from universal lighting and doubling to live music and cross-gender casting.
