Camp Nashoba North offers exciting summer adventure for boys and girls. Camp Nashoba North is located on Crescent Lake in the Sebago Lake region of southern Maine. Nashoba North is nestled on 95 acres of pinewoods and open fields. Campers enjoy breathtaking mountain views and serene peacefulness. Nashoba North offers crystal clear water for swimming, sailing, waterskiing, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Nashoba North offers four, seven, and eight week sessions to approximately 190 boys and girls between 7 and 15 from many countries around the world. Nashoba North is operated by the Seaward family, who have been in the camping field for over 50 years. WATERFRONT Nashoba North campers swim in the crystal clear, warm waters of Crescent Lake. The lake is three miles long by one mile wide. It's a perfect setting for windsurfing, sailing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, snorkeling and fishing. Nashoba North is known for its fleet of modern boats and skilled waterfront counselors. Our fleet includes: * Six American Day Sailors (four-man sailboats with a mainsail and jib) * Two JY racing boats * Ten wind surfers * An O'Day sailboat * Sunfish sailboats * Sixteen canoes * Kayaks and rowboats * High performance waterski boats * A Chase boat for the sailing department * A 29' pontoon fishing boat, water walkers, banana boats and more! SPORTS Camp Nashoba North offers both team and individual sports. Soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, golf, field hockey, lacrosse, floor hockey, water polo, water volleyball and many others are offered on a regular basis. Team sports are typically comprised of single sex teams in specific age categories. Campers travel to nearby camps for friendly competition as well as hosting their own events. Archery, which requires precision and practice and patience, is offered to all campers. Hitting a bullseye and earning a badge from the National Archery Association is exciting! Tennis The tennis program is instructional. Children are offered the structure of formal classes with allotted time for practice and competitive play. Our five all weather courts provide an optimal setting for our instructors to teach both beginners and advanced players. Tennis rules, strategies, scoring and practice enhance all levels, making tournaments and round robin events exciting. What a better way to gain your confidence and enjoy the game of tennis than at Nashoba! Golf Intensive golf lessons are taught 4 days a week at camp and 2 afternoons at local golf courses, and driving ranges. There is an additional fee for golf. Proper clothing is required. The fee for golf lessons including greens fees is $600 per session. This includes golf lessons 6 days a week. RIDING A spacious twenty two stall stable houses the prized Nashoba horses and ponies. Nashoba North owns the majority of the camp horses and also leases others from professional stables. We are known for our dependable horses and ponies. The riding program focuses on hunt seat equitation and the balance seat style of riding. Riders may choose to ride either one or two hours a day and have a third hour with a stable management lecture. The program is offered at an additional fee which includes all lessons, stable management lectures, special seminars, horse show entry fees and invitationals. Instruction is offered to girls and boys from beginner to advanced riders. Lessons are scheduled according to ability. THE OUTDOORS Nashoba North strongly believes in its commitment to our environment and to the teaching of LNT (Leave No Trace) to its children. In our Outdoor Program campers are closely supervised and learn safety in the wilderness, proper handling of fire, LNT camping, conservation techniques and an appreciation and knowledge of nature. Campers are then screened by the trip department staff as to their hiking ability and are challenged within their skill levels with a chance to advance to higher challenges. (i.e., O=beginner, <>=Expert). Nashoba is fortunate to have highly competent trip instructors on staff. We work in conjunction with the State of Maine trip leader certification and the NH White Mountain National Forest requirements. Each week campers may choose the trips they wish to participate in; no trips are mandatory at camp. Many campers strive to become of member of the "4,000 Footer Club". All trips are included in the tuition with the exception of ocean sailing and white water rafting. Most day and overnight trips stay within a two hour proximity to camp. However, we do have extraordinary trips to Baxter State Park's Mount Katahdin, the highest elevation in the state and to locations off the coast of Maine. For rock climbing enthusiasts, Nashoba has a new 35 foot climbing wall with six varying sides of difficulty. At Nashoba you will learn all the necessary safety techniques in our belay school. Campers can be seen climbing off campgrounds in New Hampshire and Maine. THE ARTS "Expression" has always been encouraged at Nashoba North whether it be through song, acting, batiking, molding clay, sketching or painting with water colors. The arts at Nashoba North are extremely diverse. Campers may choose to focus in a specific class for the week or they may prefer to try only a few different classes at once. Projects are carefully selected to enable a camper to achieve completion within the six day week. At Nashoba North you'll find a pottery studio complete with electric and kick wheels, a woodshop where campers create with soft native pine and a photography studio suited for developing black and white 35mm film. There is a silkscreening studio where campers create colorful t-shirts, a dance studio where staff teaches many styles of dance, and a large general arts and crafts building for other fun projects. Some other exciting classes include: basket making, tie-dying, puppetry, drawing, paper maché, and candle making and much more! Nashoba puts on 2 large musical productions each summer (one per session) and One Act plays are performed weekly. Past musicals have included Mulan, Willy Wonka and Aladin. The musicals are performed before the entire camp community, including parents, in our indoor theater, complete with custom lighting and stage design. The One Acts are staged in our 300 seat outdoor theater. Theater classes include improvisational, mime, stage makeup, lighting, and more! One Act plays are performed once each week and one large musical is performed every four week session. Dances are choreographed by Nashoba staff persons for each production. Dance classes may include ballet, tap, modern dance, jazz and aerobics. Campers who play an instrument are encouraged to bring it to camp.
