This is a basic camp listing: no contact information is provided.

At Club Kodiak we provide our guests with an independent vacation/camp experience in a safe and structured environment that is designed to meet the needs of young adults aged 19+. The majority of our guests have LD, NLD, ADHD or what used to be called Asperger Syndrome. We offer our guests more than 30 sports and activities, weekly out-of-camp excursions and integrated life skills and social skill-building programming in a supported environment.  Our facilities include modern lakefront cottages, a recreation hall, a beautiful 50+ acre site and 3500ft. of lakefront. Club Kodiak provides discreet and respectful 24 hour supervision that takes into account the age and individual needs of our guests.

We are not a program for guests with severe behavioral problems.

WE PROGRAM FOR SUCCESS!

Many of our guests have very little confidence and poor self-esteem. Everything that is important to young adults is challenging for them; making and maintaining friendships, school, building the skills of independent living. Many are hesitant to take on new challenges. We offer a considerable variety of activities for our guests to choose from. They are encouraged, but never forced, to participate in any activity.

Everything we do at Club Kodiak is planned with a view to teaching skills, building confidence and improving self-esteem. We achieve this by carefully structuring all of our sports and activities to ensure success. We acknowledge every accomplishment, and never miss the opportunity to provide positive feedback and recognition. Our instructors de-emphasize competition, stress co-operation and sportsmanship and model appropriate attitudes and behavior. We offer over 30 sports, crafts and educational activities to ensure that every guest will experience success in many different areas.

SOCIAL SKILLS PROGRAM

Many of our guests are young for their age. Many are lonely young people without a consistent social group. The development of social skills is a main focus of our program. We work on teaching guests how to make friends and how to maintain friendships, both through specialized social skills programming and throughout the course of daily living.

LIFE SKILLS PROGRAMS

While much of our life skills programming is built into the daily schedule – cooking, laundry, housekeeping, etc., we also have two periods a day dedicated to life skills programming. Our workshops include, but are not limited to, resume-building, interview skills, healthy lifestyles, healthy relationships, budgeting, hygiene, food safety, fire safety, basic home repair, cosmetology, baking, meal planning, public speaking, sewing and clothing repair, public speaking and landscaping.

OUR STAFF

An important reason for the success of our program is our staff. We offer a 3:1 guest -to-staff ratio.  The majority of our staff are certified professionals from the fields of education, psychology, social work, nursing and recreation.  The remaining staff are university or college students, most of whom are working towards a career in one of the helping professions. All of our staff undergo a rigorous training period before the guests arrive and all new counselors go through a police background check.

NUTRITION

As part of our life skills programming, we emphasize a healthy diet with a focus on balance, variety and moderation. Breakfast and lunch are prepared in the cabins by the guests and staff. Once a week each cabin is responsible for preparing dinner for the group, with the remaining meals being prepared by staff. Guests are served three meals and two snacks per day.

Meals are prepared with low sugar and additive content, and are planned to provide a healthy and balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Seconds are always available and we can accommodate most special diets including vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free.

Club Kodiak is a tree nut, peanut and sesame-free environment.

MEDICAL CARE

Club Kodiak has a certified nurse on site. All medication is administered by our nurse. In the event of an emergency, we are just 30 minutes from the hospital in Huntsville.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation to Club Kodiak is by highway coach from Toronto. There is no extra charge for this service. Parents who prefer to drive their guest to or from Club are welcome to do so.

Club personnel are available to meet guests at Pearson International Airport (YYZ) in Toronto and to return them to the airport at the end of session. There is no extra charge for airport service as long as guests arrive and depart within our pick-up and delivery window.
