The Greater Richmond Sailing Association will be holding week-long sail camps this summer for beginner and intermediate/advanced students. All sessions are taught by U.S. Sailing certified instructors, and will be held at the club facilities at 4301 Wooldridge Road on Swift Creek Reservoir in Midlothian. Classes are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Camps are open to students from 8 to 17. Cost is $350 per week-long session. Registration is open to all, regardless of county of residence. The programs support self-confidence, sportsmanship, safety awareness and respect for others.
Level I Sail Camp-No experience required! Make new friends, spend the week on the lake, and learn how to sail. Sailors will learn to rig sailboats, identify parts of a sailboat, trim sails, practice safety, read the wind, and steer the boat. Students will work together to rig, operate and stow single-handed Optimist Dinghies and double-handed Collegiate 420 sailboats based on their age, weight and experience. Level II Sail Camp-Make new friends, spend the week on the lake, learn intermediate/advanced sailing techniques, and experiment with the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math components of sailing. Build a device to measure the wind, make a boat, and experiment with simple machines on boats.
