My teenage son spent two consecutive summers at Camp Wediko. The first year he had to go. The second year he chose to go. My son has bipolar disorder with a history of anxiety, trauma and abandonment issues. Academically he was failing and he had no circle of friends. We were referred to Wediko via DMH and the experience was life changing. My son worked out his trauma in a safe environment with a caring clinical team. He came off the bus a whole new person. He hugged me for the first time in years. He was smiling and he looked so at peace. Wediko also makes parents attend therapy weekly and it was wonderful the way they used the sessions to open the lines of communication between me and both my sons. Today he is thriving and doing well in school. He has friends, uses the coping skills he was taught and hopes to someday help kids just like him. Wediko is the answer to every mom's prayer for their child to be happy.

In one summer, Camp Wediko helped changed our 11 year old son’s negative dynamic within our family. Diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder and feeling he was “the worst kid”, the counselors at Camp Wediko, helped him realize he was not the only one struggling with such feelings. They offered safe support and therapy that enabled him to see himself more positively, which in turn led to a less angry child at home. Camp Wediko made sure the kids and families there wanted to improve behavior and relationships. They offered academic support also, that made the transition back to school easier in the fall. But, most importantly, our son returned home ready to work on being part of the family. We adapted the Wediko structure of daily self-evaluation and rewards and used it successfully for 2 ½ years. Our home is a much safer, happier place because of the one summer our son spent at Wediko.
