Environmental Tips and Savings: Summer Camp Owners and Directors Can't Post

Summer camp management is contributing to environmental progress, and simplifying business, by making the transition to a paperless administration. It has become increasingly common for camps and parents to fill out and transmit online forms rather than correspond by mail.

Costs for paper, copy forms, and postage are declining as information is rapidly processed online to camp databases. Camps discover a cleaner, paperless trail with the reduction of paper correspondences. Also, there is a significant decrease in the quantity of excess paper for sorting and re-cycling at season’s end. A near elimination of the paper trail proactively helps the environment.

Organizational benefits for summer camp directors include:

  1. Bunkmate Request Forms: Directors can create cabin line-ups from database information

  2. Camper Profiles: Directors can create database profiles of each camper’s activity preferences, medical conditions, and food allergies

  3. Travel Logistics: Directors communicate online with parents regarding their children’s travel arrangements and changes in plans
Cabinet files and folders will be phased out and replaced by a secure online database where information is held for retrieval and review.

Paperless camps provide the freedom to work from anywhere for camp owners and directors. They don't have to work from camp or winter residences, but can work off site, while traveling, if desired.

Substantial financial savings occur when bypassing the assembly and mail out of brochures. But the big savings is due to cuts in postal costs.

Summer camp owners and directors can become the last refuge for outdoor educators, and environmental stewards, by utilizing non-paper products and going digital with internet marketing and databasing.
