July Summer Camp Reading Can't Post

Let it begin.

The annual celebration of kids arriving at camp; the hot, hot sun and the cool blue lake.

We've waited a year for it to happen and now it's finally here! Summer camp 2008.

There's plenty to cheer about, whether your camp is traditional or specialty, a neighborhood day camp or a travel abroad teen brigade. Maybe it's all for fun and education, sometimes REAL education, like spending the summer at a university campus.

Maybe you're a camper or a staff member, a counselor or support staff a la kitchen helper or health center personnel. Or a head honcho - a director or owner - the people who make it all possible for the celebration to last the entire summer.

Whoever you are and in whatever summer circumstance, welcome to the MySummerCamps.com July 2008 Newsletter.

Here's a overview:
  1. Summer Camp & New Technology

Stephen Winbaum writes about the summer camp battlefield of pro techies versus traditionalists and determines that there's room for both to peacefully co-exist.

  2. There's a “Bad” Kid in the Cabin... Classroom... Neighbourhood...

Camp Scholar Joanne Kates pleads with parents to read between the lines when it comes to kids' behavior: Instead of micro-managing for perfection in their world, if we teach them to manage adversity, we’ve given them what we call at camp a “lifelong learnable,” recommends Joanne.

  3. The Difficult Bunk Meeting

In this ACA article, Jeffrey Leiken, M.A. details how the wrong combination of personalities and bad chemistry can create a bunk that the rest of the camp MUST avoid. Fortunately, Jeffrey outlines skillful interventions to bring the 'bad boys' or 'bad girls' back to earth.

    Upcoming Events

  4. The Summer Camp National Anthem 2008

Stephen Winbaum mangles The Star-Spangled Banner all in good jest: And the sunlight’s bright glare, the bugs biting in air!
