Natural Selection - A Fun Read - For Campers and Camp Directors!

During my summer vacation I picked up a book for hanging around the beach and the cottage. I wasn’t expecting much, but I found Natural Selection by Dave Freedman to be a great sci-fi narrative; something adults and camping kids would enjoy. --- Natural Selection is like National Geographic meets The Terminator! Its concept is awesome: an action-thriller about the modern day evolution of a new species of flying predator and what happens when it encounters man! This new novel is much more than a lightning fast read. Booksellers around the country note that much of the fiction written for kids these days is particularly mean-spirited. Girls' fiction often involves nasty back-stabbing cliques while boys' fiction is often nothing but "blood and guts" horror. Natural Selection is neither. What makes this new book interesting is that the author is highly educated - an engineering graduate from Princeton with a master's from Harvard - and he presents complicated scientific concepts in a fun, easy-to-understand way. So while kids read Natural Selection, they're not only entertained, they learn something! The book's characters are another bonus. They're a group of earnest, hard-working professionals, both men and women, and they offer fantastic role models for kids. Natural Selection also provides a detailed exposure to nature - the environment and how wild animals live. I found Natural Selection to be an excellent cross-over book for adults and kids. Both campers and directors will love this book! This is a good book to mention to campers at group meetings.
