Fieldstone Day School - 2999 Dufferin Street, Toronto, Ontario Saturday, May 12, 8:00am – 4:30pm Theme: Taking responsibility! It’s everyone’s job Opening Keynote Speaker - Jason Nolan PhD Assistant Professor, School of Early Childhood Education, Ryerson University Lions and tigers and Facebook . . . Oh my! Information technology and the camper Information technology creates new challenges for camp owners and anyone involved in camping. From helicopter parents to camera phones in cabins, to inappropriate postings about camp life on myspace, the prospect can be daunting. But when the camp and campers join together, it is possible to extend the camping experience beyond the fields and forests into a year round sharing of friendships and community that makes it all worthwhile. Is information technology a burden or blessing? It all depends on how you engage with it, create a policy, prepare for risks and challenges, practice basic internet safety, and get involved. Jason has spent 20 years teaching, learning and exploring online and virtual environments as an extension of his interest in the outdoors and real environmental issues. Areas of interest include: children and technology, protection of children’s information, social networking software (blogs, wikis, facebook, second life, flickr), virtual learning environments, critical pedagogy, teacher professionalization and research ethics. Lunch Time Event – All delegate Mixer with Markus Fehr – Camp Manitou Icebreakers and Mixers! How to meet a roomful of people you don’t know Closing Keynote Speaker – Mike Pearse - Camp Tawingo Making a positive difference this summer!
