Summer Camp Disc Golf

Summer camp disc golf is on the upswing. This inexpensive game is making headway at summer day camps and residential camps. Disc golf, also called — D-Golf, Frisbee® Golf or Frolf — is easy to set up, maintain, and modify according to every camp’s need. It’s played like real golf but with a set of discs replacing clubs and balls. Wide, light discs, capable of floating long distances, act as drivers and irons, and smaller, heavier discs perform the roles of putters. Distance and accuracy provide players with strategies to reach the finishing point – at or below par. The end spot of each hole can be a manufactured metal basket with chains, or a simple wicker basket or hula hoop. Ambitious camps can remove wooded areas to develop dog legs and obstacles and construct 9 to 18 hole courses. But many camps will want to keep it simple and start participants from varying spots on the perimeter of a central field and have them toss to a stationary end point. Some camp directors find their kids are keener for land sports than water and boating activities. Disc golf comes in handy as a way to keep kids active and having fun. Given its all-purpose character, the future of disc golf seems assured. Stephen Winbaum is the Communications Coordinator of MySummerCamps.com ---
