Summer Camp Sunset - 2008 Can't Post

August is bittersweet.

It's the last month of summer camp, and there's a week or two ahead of good times, but the end is in sight. Department stores are preparing for the next step with "Back to School" signs sprouting up as reminders of the realities ahead.

Friendships between campers and counselors may conclude, with a return between homes of thousands of miles. Facebook, MySpace and e-mail can keep up communication, but nothing beats playing in nature, living in cozy cabins, and partaking in teambuilding events.

In many ways, the camping industry will be going into full-swing, with the push to quickly re-enroll campers for 2009, and the launching of the annual summer camp convention circuit throughout North America and abroad.

It all seemed so fast. Camp began in early July, and it's already coming to an end.

Summer 2008 will be much longer for many summer camp operators. September and October can be months to double up on the grounds and facilities for special groups. Then, May and June of 2009 can be utilized for the same reason. The end of the 2008 season is the beginning of looking forward for summer camp owners and directors.

But, really, everyone is looking forward, thinking and saying: "Wasn't this summer great, can't wait for next year".
