Summer Camp or Conference Center

The extended season is an alluring prospect for residential camp owners. Summer camp is an 8-week affair in July and August, so it's good business sense to consider prime recreational land as a conference center or retreat for outside groups. Spring and autumn - the bookend seasons for summer camp - are excellent times to lengthen the business calendar. It means extra work in maintaining facilities, refurbishing, and developing new offerings. Summer camps that operate outside of the traditional season take on new lives as conference/retreat centers for an increased demographic. Summer campers are replaced by corporate, religious, and education groups, for several days to a week. For owners, the added work in maintaining and upgrading the camp facilities is often compensated by the relatively simple process of handing over the camp to incoming groups. Rental businesses are based more on transactions - fees for facilities - and less on the human interaction that comes with interacting with parents, children, and teenage staff. Most camp owners still see their business as parent/child-based; the off-season rental aspect is an appealing source of additional income. Plus, the off-season income can be employed in improving and growing the summer camp, making it more attractive in the competitive summer camp business. The variety of camp rental business is expanding but will always owe its existence to the two months of summer camp fun. Stephen Winbaum is the Communications Coordinator of MySummerCamps.com ---
