The Art of Summer Camps Can't Post

Summer is a great time for arts and crafts.

The experience is intuitive and hands-on. Campers apply their minds and hands to create a personal, and cherished, object d’art.

Arts and crafts also provide campers with —
  • a way to relax indoors and cool off from the excitement of summer heat
  • greater self-esteem by taking gradual risks of artistic creation
  • new skills and self-confidence
Arts and crafts specialists, with teaching abilities, are great additions to all camps.

Summer camp arts and crafts shares ideals with the Arts and Crafts movement, a late 19th and early 20th century school of design that opposed mechanized production that reduced or eliminated many of the traditional roles of craftspeople.

The traditional fare of summer arts and crafts is ceramics, papier-mâché, and puppetry.

More recent developments include photography and environmental crafts.
