Evan spoke with co-host Beverly Thomson, one of the country’s most respected on-air personalities.

Below is a transcript of the interview between Evan and Beverly.
Beverly: Evan Heltay joins us this morning with tips on choosing the right camp. The best thing about MySummerCamps.com is that it’s free.
Evan: Yes, it’s a free online resource and the most trafficked summer camp resource on the planet. About 300,000 people a month access the site.
Beverly: People from all over the world use your website.
Evan: MySummerCamps.com is not just a Canadian resource. We have thousands of camps in the United States, Europe, and Israel, all across Europe, South Africa, and South America.
Beverly: What are the trends in camping, now?
Evan: The trend is towards more specialized programs. There are still a lot of phenomenal traditional experiences, but now there are specialized programs like, sports, academic, and art-related.
Beverly: One of the things for parents to consider is the cost of the camp. What is the range?
Evan: There’s the whole gamut! There are camps that are funded by non-profit agencies and organizations, and might cost $200.00 a week. Then, at the other end, there are specialized camps that cost $1,500 to $2,000 US per week. They might feature sailing in the Caribbean, Marine Science, Travel across Europe and Asia, safaris. These programs are only available for teens.
Beverly: On your website, will I find who’s accredited? It’s important that they meet certain standards and regulations.
Evan: Yes, it is important. In Canada, we have the Canadian Camping Association. In the US, there’s the American Camping Association.
Beverly: What about an important issue like staff/camper ratio?
Evan: That’s a very important question. Eight to one is the right ratio for younger kids; for older children, perhaps twelve to one. But in prestigious programs, the ratio may be as low as three or four to one.
