The sizzling temperatures last weekend surely reminded a few folks that it's time to find a summer camp. If you're a parent who failed to make the connection, here's a gentle reminder: Get going!
About 11 million children and families in the United States attend summer camps every year. The Bay Area is particularly popular. Danielle Pinney of the American Camp Association, Northern California, says many out-of-state and international families look here for summer camp opportunities. So you've got some competition - and, thankfully, a multitude of options.
They include day, overnight or residential stays that last a week or more. In addition to traditional camps, specialty camps focus on adventure, fine arts, horseback riding, soccer, swimming, Web design and more.
