When the days were still long and hot at Liberty Lake Day Camp in Mansfield last summer, director Andy Pritikin was already thinking ahead to the approaching economic winter.

Before the children had finished out their sessions, he was offering parents a steep discount to sign up their kids for summer 2009.

"I had the greatest number of early signups ever for my camp," said Pritikin, who is also a committee chair at the American Camp Association. "That said, we now are finding people dropping out at a much higher rate than before. But we're still ahead."
