Camp Patriot, the series of government sponsored summer camps held this past summer, was celebrated in Tbilisi on Sunday, September 11.

The camps brought together thousands of youth from throughout Georgia as well as some international youth notably from Ukraine. During the camps the kids participated in typical summer activities in resorts areas such as Bakuriani and Lake Bazeleti. Some of the over 11,000 campers also participated in military drills like shooting.

On Sunday veteran campers and government officials gathered at the Sports Palace in Tbilisi to mark the completion of the camps. President Mikheil Saakashvili addressed the auditorium replete with cheering youth, spotlights and a large screen display of a new video clip made about the camps.

Also in attendance at the festivities at the Sports Palace were the Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II, Prime Minister Zurab Noghaieli and other officials, all of whom praised the camp and the children who took part.
