June Summer Camp Reading
June is the prelude to the beginning of summer camp. In that sense it is a month of anticipation for the season ahead. The June Newsletter is the harbinger of Summer Camp 2008 - writes Stephen Winbaum, Communications Coordinator of MySummerCamps.com.
Summer Camp Anticipation
There's been bad news. It's called statistics. Reports that summer camp attendance will be down as families struggle with high fuel prices and rising food costs. Could this be the end of summer camp, the year the countdown stopped? - writes Stephen Winbaum.
Drugs, Sex and Rock & Roll at Summer Camp? Not on My Watch
So what are our goals at camp with respect to teens and sex? The first one is simple: It's a no-go zone. We tell them that their parents didn't send them to camp to have sex, and that it is therefore our responsibility to make sure that they are not sexually active at camp. In this we are undemocratic and authoritarian. The "leash" is very short! - writes Camp Scholar, Joanne Kates.
The Bobcats
My kids continued to be a challenge through the remainder of the eleven-day session, and I continued to challenge them to change, to be leaders, and make something of themselves. The day they left all six begged to stay. What they were really begging for was an opportunity to remain ten-year old boys, to feel safe, and loved - writes Alicia Kaul in an ACA article.

Each module teaches critical leadership skills that every camp counselor needs to effectively deal with the social, behavioral, and disciplinary situations that arise at all summer camps. |

New Beginnings - Summer Camp 2008
For many camps, there is a spirituality that occurs with the relationship between nature and an ecology that hums with a spirit that can rarely be found in the city and the suburbs. The return to nature from two week to two months is a lesson that summer camp teaches in an environmentally-challenged era - writes Stephen Winbaum - Communications Coordinator of MySummerCamps.com.
