COTA CAMPJAZZ is scheduled for July 26th - August 1st 2010. Sponsored by the Delaware Water Gap Celebration of the Arts (COTA) and its Fund for Young Musicians, this one-week program is an intense and inspiring experience for all aspiring jazz musicians - instrumentalists and vocalists - minimum age 13 through adult. Students will - play in small ensembles based on ability - experience lunchtime faculty concerts and master classes - learn the fundamentals of improvisation from a world-class faculty of performing artists who share a passion for teaching and mentoring.
Directed by NEA Jazz Master Phil Woods and Rick Chamberlain, the CampJazz program faculty includes Jim Daniels, Bill Goodwin, Eric Doney, Dave Liebman, Evan Gregor, Jay Rattman, Spencer Reed, Bobby Avey, Matt Vaslishan, Bob Leive, Bob Dorough, Caris Visentin, Kent Heckman, Jesse Green and more.
The CampJazz campus - in the Borough of Delaware Water Gap, PA - encompasses the Deer Head Inn - home of Jazz in the Poconos for over 60 years - the Presbyterian Church of the Mountain -and the COTA Festival site. Field trips take students to the Al Cohn Memorial Jazz Collection at East Stroudsburg University (ESU) and to Red Rock Recording Studio, where each ensemble will be professionally recorded. The week’s work and play culminates in a Sunday evening concert, open to the public, showcasing each ensemble.
