Camp Blue Diamond is a Christian camp affiliated with the Church of the Brethren. It is our hope and prayer that all who attend experience God as we live, play and worship together in the midst of creation. 440 to 450 campers attend camp each summer. Camp Blue Diamond offers camping opportunities an array of programs for children ages 5 to 18 years old. Typical camp activities include: swimming, canoeing, climbing tower, giant swing, crafts, nature study, hiking, and outdoor cooking. Specialized camps offer: spelunking, cycling, white water rafting, river canoeing, service projects, and leadership training. The CBD experience offers campers an opportunity to live in a Christ-centered environment where each person is valued, the Bible is taught, and campers discover what it means to live peacefully, simply and together. Counselors are college aged and older, selected by the Program Committee for their commitment to Christ, experience with children and passion for camping. Background checks are conducted on all staff members and a week-long orientation takes place prior to summer camp where staff learn specifics such as: communicating with campers, effective discipline, conflict resolution, and health-care and safety concerns. The facilities at camp include comfortable cabins with heat and electricity and a central bathhouse with private showers and bathroom stalls. Meals take place in a common dining hall, swimming is in a lake with a sandy beach. Though it varies according to age, the typical ratio is 1 staff member to 6 campers. As one camp parent said, “When my kids come home from camp, they are better people.”
