Camp Northway and Camp Wendigo

Northway, Canada's oldest summer camp for girls celebrated its 118th summer in 2023. Northway offers a traditional program based on our wilderness setting, of swimming, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, arts and crafts and dramatics. Canoe trips are the most special and loved of all activities. Northway has developed an unmatched style, spirit and skill in canoe tripping. Northway was founded with the idea that girls should learn how to live simply in the outdoors and that the absence of appliances and luxuries would give campers a wilderness experience which they might draw upon throughout their lives. We try to maintain the idea that in-camp life should be almost as simple as life on a canoe trip. In camp the spirit is much the same as it is out in the wilderness - - one of willingness to help others, to befriend every other camper and to appreciate the beauty of nature.

Wendigo is essentially a canoe-tripping outpost, offering supervised canoe trips throughout Algonquin Park's 3000 square miles of protected wilderness. The boys are involved in every facet of a canoe-trip. They learn how to pack out a trip, both food and equipment. They learn the value of efficiency and ingenuity in setting up camp and in outdoor cooking. Wendigo's rigorous programmme helps boys to develop their canoe-tripping skills.
