Camp Summit is a "sleep away" camp for children and adults with disabilities ages 6-99. We offer weeklong camp sessions during spring break, summer and fall months as well as weekend sessions and respite days. Campers are offered a wide variety of traditional camp activities in our barrier-free environment all of which are adapted for our campers' abilities and not limited to their disabilities. Our campers may be developmentally delayed, physically challenged, dual-sensory impaired or have multiple disabilities ranging from mild to severe.
Our campers are able to connect socially with others in an environment of complete acceptance. At each camp session, campers participate in activities that most campers enjoy every day, such as horseback riding, swimming, archery, arts & crafts, nature studies, kaleidoscope, ropes challenge course and sports & games. All senses are engaged during their week at camp. Whether it is smelling nature while on a nature walk, feeling the texture of the horse and saddle while riding, or hearing the crackle of the fire while hanging out by the campfire with new friends, our campers gain the experience of being outdoors and a feeling of belonging. Because we offer a 2 to 1 ratio of campers to counselor and provide all medical care for campers during their stay, our families and caregivers can be assured the health and safety of their loved one is our top priority.
At Camp Summit we never deny a campers' participation due to their inability to pay or the severity of their disability. As long as we can medically handle their needs they are welcome at camp. Unique to organizations that serve the population with disabilities, Camp Summit has no upper age limit and has campers who have attended camp for over 50 years. Camp Summit is located in Paradise, Texas, just northwest of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on 460 acres of land. We are accredited by the American Camp Association and licensed as a Youth Camp in the State of Texas.
Camp Summit is an amazing place. They have just updated all of their facilities and we can't wait to see the new camp!
