Interview of Camp
What’s the story of your camp?
Canyon Creek is a traditional and multi-sport camp focused on building confidence and independence and helping kids discover who they are in a fun, safe and non-competitive environment. Started in the summer of 2001, Owners Jeff Robinson, Daryl Moss and Nathalie Moss continue to serve as the day to day directors and stress the importance of family and respect throughout the camp experience.
What are the opportunities that this camp offers to campers?
Canyon Creek offers campers the opportunity to be themselves and accept challenges in a fun and supportive environment. All campers are encouraged to try new things, test their limits and explore their capabilities to the fullest. Whether it be in sports, arts, drama or any of the other hundreds of activities at Canyon Creek, campers are given individual attention and encouraged to make the most of their summer.
Can you tell us about your coaches, camp counselors and facilities?
Over 2 million dollars in renovations have made Canyon Creek one of the top campsites on the West Coast. Our 82-acre complex features prime athletic facilities, state-of-the-art equipment and all the newest games, challenges and activities. Our counselors represent the best of the best and must have prior experience working with kids. All counselors must provide a written application as well as conduct multiple interviews either in person or through Skype. Full counselors must be at least 19 years of age and attend a 7 day training period that includes first aid and CPR certification, communication, supervision and discipline seminars, anti-bullying strategies, situational role playing, emergency procedures and an introduction to many of the newest games and activities. We have roughly a 1:3 ratio of staff to campers at CCSC.
What sets this camp apart?
The Owners continue to be the day to day Directors so that the personal attention that has been a trademark of the camp since day 1, continues to be the cornerstone of what Canyon Creek is all about. Parents and campers will be made to feel like they are well known by everyone at camp and that it is more than just a camp. Our campers feel like Canyon Creek is their home away from home…and in some instances their first home!
What's the best compliment that you have received from a parent or camper that attended this camp?
That their kid came home happier, more confident and with a greater interest in being involved in a wider variety of activities….and that they made their bed every day!
