For the past 8 years, Hudson River Community Sailing has provided a high-quality summer day camp conducted upon our fleet of ten 24-foot sailboats for students from all 5 boroughs of New York, as well as from across the globe. Our US Sailing and US Coast Guard certified staff tailors the daily activities to a broad range of ages (10-17) and experience levels (beginners welcome!) to make for a fun and engaging experience for all. A 5:1 student-instructor ratio will be maintained.
Sessions are one week long, 9a-4p Monday-Friday, July 5-August 26. Early drop-off and late pick-up are available. Participation in multiple weeks is highly encouraged! The camp is offered at our main location in Chelsea for the entire 8 weeks. The camp will also be offered at our satellite location in Inwood beginning August 1.
The average City Sail day is comprised of morning and afternoon sailing sessions, lunch and games in the park nearby, and short classroom sessions to cover relevant sailing and marine science topics. A weekly highlight is Trip Day, where students will do an all-day destination sail to either the Statue of Liberty or the Palisades.
Students will participate in all aspects of sailing: rigging the boat, steering, trimming sails, and navigating. As an athletic team sport, sailing is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while learning a technical skill and developing team cooperation and leadership abilities.
Hudson River Community Sailing was named Outstanding Community Sailing Center 2016 by US Sailing, the national governing body of the sport.
We are a 501(c)3 charitable organization that develops leadership and academic success in underserved New York City youth through sailing education and provides maritime education and recreation to the community at large.
