Discourse Debate Campis a series of debate camps run at the University of Toronto since 2010 by Shakir Rahim, a debate coach for several independent school programs in Toronto such as the University of Toronto Schools, St. Andrew’s College, Trafalgar Castle School, and for private students across Canada. Discourse is an excellent way for students of all skill levels to strengthen their foundational debate skills and learn more advanced debate techniques. Each camp integrates seminars, individual and group exercises, and practice debates in multiple styles to develop and strengthen skills.
Here are what some students have said about their experience at Discourse:
“Discourse is the perfect foundation for all speakers, novice and experienced, to understand the art of debate.”
- Justice Betty of BSS, Second Speaker Overall at the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Championships
“After the week, I walked away with lists of reading source for research, and pages of notes on politics, economics, and international relations.”
- Benjamin Levy of UTS, First Speaker Overall at the McGill High School Debate Championships
“Discourse was the perfect balance between theory and practice. The skills I learned there were invaluable and helped with multiple tournament achievements.”
- Jadyn Dragasevich of SAC, Finalist in Cross-Examination Debate at the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Championships
