Welcome to our 83rd year of camping. We are pleased to offer you the Opportunity for a summer 2007 camp experience. The Dorothy P. Flint Nassau County 4 H Camp is a co educational, sleep away camp for youth entering grades 4 10.

 

The camp is operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County and accredited by the American Camping Association. ACA accreditation signifies to parents and the public that our camp cares enough to thoroughly review its operational practices seek the wisdom of other camp professionals and make necessary improvements to comply with professional camp standards.

 

Our program offers many traditional camping activities and specialized in depth programming. We are committed to offering campers a high quality educational program while achieving the same level of excellence as our partners at Cornell University.

 

The camp is located on the North Fork of Long Island in the town of Riverhead. The camps 140 acre natural setting is situated in a unique combination of woodlands bluffs farmland and L.I. Sound beach frontage. The 140 acre natural setting includes:

 

-          a 40 acre work and learn farm

-          indoor horse riding arena

-          low and high adventure course

-          waterfront for swimming and fishing

-          nature center housing a selection of native fish and wildlife species

-          extensive woodland for nature study and overnight camping

-          baseball soccer and lacrosse fields

-          basketball and tennis courts

-          sand court for beach volleyball

-          open areas for sports, outdoor cooking recreation and much more.

 

Our camps educational model - Learn by Doing instills in our campers to use their HEAD HEART HANDS and HEALTH.  The DPF 4 H Camp environment allows campers to build upon Life skills such as independence self confidence and self reliance.  A greater knowledge of the natural world is emphasized through learning experiences in our Camps unique natural environments.

 

Appreciating others cultural differences and sharing with consideration for others are essential elements of living with cabin mates in cabins.  Campers will continue to grow and experience the lasting benefits of camp through Building Friendships for a lifetime with campers and staff.
