Griffin Valley Ranch

Welcome to the Summer Horse Sense Day Camp at Griffin Valley Ranch. We offer a fun-filled, week long adventure on horseback for horse enthusiasts from eight years old to sixteen years old, every week during July and August. The participants are bused to and from Calgary and area every day. There are convenient pick-up and drop-off points in the city as well as at the Bearspaw Service Station on the 1A Highway and in Cochrane. You may choose your own transportation, but please note registration fees will not be adjusted. **NOTE!** Reminder that our camp qualifies for the Child Fitness Tax Credit. On the first day of camp participants are assigned to a group based on their age, size and ability. There are four assigned groups ranging from novice to advanced. Each weekly session focuses on safety, basic riding skills and the important aspects of caring for a horse and its equipment. Participants spend the majority of the day directly with the horses. Daily activities include a combination of arena exercises, games on horseback, riding drills, ground activities, gymkhana races and of course trail riding on our beautiful 4,500 acres. Each camp day has a specific focus or new adventure and by the end of the week participants should be able to ride with confidence, control and balance for their level. If the weather is inclement all activities move inside into our indoor arena or our lecture hall. A highlight of working with a live animal is the bond that develops between horse and rider. Participants have the opportunity to feed their horse treats such as carrots or apples (provided from home). As part of the camp fee each participant will also receive a 5 x 7 professional color photo posing with their horse. Family photos may also be taken on Friday during and after the show. Friday is a highlight as parents and guests are invited to come for lunch (available at the Griffin Valley Restaurant / Snack Bar or enjoy your own picnic lunch on the grounds). The Grand Parade and Gymkhana start at 1 pm and finish with an awards ceremony. All formal activities are wrapped up by 3 pm. Our goal is to provide a SAFE, FUN and EDUCATIONAL horse experience for children aged 8 to 16. We encourage your questions or concerns at any time.
