Hack-A-Thing is a five-day immersion in design thinking for product development. Participants will form teams and will take every day products/objects and go through a four-phase process to innovate some aspect of that object: 1) inspiration, 2) ideation, 3) implementation, and 4) iteration. The inspiration phase is about exploring potential problems with the product that are worth addressing. After a problem has be selected and validated, the ideation phase begins. In this phase, participants brainstorm solutions to the problem they identified. Next is the implementation phase in which participants build and then test prototypes of their new innovations of the old object. Finally, participants use the feedback data collected during their tests and iterate on their solution. On the last day of the program participants deliver a presentation to parents, teachers, entrepreneurs and others.
