Located on the rugged Downeast coast of Maine, MESSY is a summer camp like no other! At MESSY, you'll engage in hands-on learning, focused on environmental education, stewardship, and sustainability. You will have the opportunity to work with University of Maine at Machias faculty, actively participating in important work in the field and in the classroom. Spend a week exploring coastal marine life and investigating local streams and forests to create solutions for real-world environmental problems. The topic of study for MESSY 2013 will be Global Climate Change!
Students entering grades 6-12 are eligible to participate in MESSY, and campers spend the week living on campus in one of the University of Maine at Machias'dorms. When you're not engaged in learning sessions, you'll have the opportunity to take part in a variety of recreational activities including, hiking, canoeing, swimming, and sports. Campers also have access to the University of Maine's indoor swimming pool and game room facilities during their stay, and all meal's are provided by or in the Universities dining facilities.
