Adventures is a program designed specifically to challenge the minds of younger students who are exhibiting academic promise at a very early age. This program will give younger students the opportunity to explore the worlds of science, math, art, literature, readings, and engineering in the company of qualified instructors and fellow gifted students. OPPTAG strives to offer challenging academic experiences that incorporate hands-on experimentation and provides students with experiences not found in the traditional classroom.
This is a one-week, half day or full day, non-residential program for students entering grades 3-6. Students have the amazing opportunity to choose one morning and one afternoon class in the same week when participating in Adventures. If students do participate in two classes during a week, the OPPTAG staff escorts students from class to lunch and then on to their second class.
Explorations is our one-week residential program for students entering grades 9-11. Students in this residential program live in Iowa State University's residence halls closely supervised by a fun-loving and exceptionally talented group of resident advisers. During this one-week time period, students get a taste of college life while focusing on an area not typically available in their traditional school setting.
Social activities allow students the time to relax, have fun, become better acquainted with other academically gifted students, and get to know themselves. Iowa State University offers indoor and outdoor recreational facilities for a wide variety of physical activities that the resident advisers and OPPTAG staff coordinate for the students after a day of academic challenges.
