Skidmore's Pre-College Program is a unique summer experience for high school students interested in preparing for their future lives as college students. Designed for highly motivated students in good standing who demonstrate maturity and self-discipline, the 5-week program offers them the opportunity to engage in college-level study with distinguished Skidmore faculty in either liberal arts, studio art, or both. The majority of students attend the program following their junior year in high school, but it is open to qualified rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
Program admission is determined upon review of a completed application, personal statement, official transcript, and two letters of recommendation; an electronic portfolio is required of students applying to studio art courses. Limited financial aid scholarships are available to qualified students based on financial need and merit.
Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a highly selective liberal arts college with a reputation for its creative approaches to just about everything. With its small size and student-faculty ratio, the College is a close-knit academic community. Skidmore is known for its faculty of teacher-scholars devoted to the instruction and mentoring of undergraduates—approximately 2,400 talented men and women from some 47 states and 46 countries.
