Presbyterian College is one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the southeast and among the 65+ colleges nationally that are affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). PC is a fully accredited four-year college located in Clinton, SC, about midway on a line between Greenville and Columbia.
On Sunday, June 10, 2007, the National Presbyterian Youth Choir at Presbyterian College will celebrate the on-campus registration of its inaugural season.
Thus far, the NPYC has only been a dream. Now, it becomes a reality! The Department of Music at PC has been adding summer programs, mostly in the area of piano and general music camps for the past several years. Since 2002, when the subject of the NPYC was first discussed, the faculty and administration at PC have been extremely interested in getting the choir off the ground.
Last spring, announcements from the college indicated that the program would begin during the summer of 2006, but materials had arrived at most local churches too late for many interested students and church leadership.
This year, information is being distributed during the Fall of 2006 to allow for churches, pastors, church musicians, and interested students to make arrangements to participate in this new and exciting endeavor.
Young singers may apply to participate in the NPYC relatively easily:
1. Singers must be sponsored by their churches or Presbyterian institutions which they attend or with which they are affiliated;
2. Singers must be rising into the 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grades during the summer of 2007;
3. Singers should complete an application form and demonstrate their vocal ability on a recording and return both to PC.
Application materials and financial information
are available on the departmental website .
Summer 2007 will be a great time to join one of the country’s most exciting initiatives for young Presbyterian musicians!
