The Turtle camp is designed to be fun, educational and is vitally important for our environment. If you are interested in coastal ecology, want to make a difference, and you think you can handle a week of Mayan Paradise "Turtle camp" in Akumal, Mexico is the place for you. Turtle Camp 2008 will be hosted at Villas DeRosa Resort and is sponsored by S.A.V.E. "Turtle Camp" is designed for kids age 8 to 15, but families are also encouraged to experience the camp. Akumal, is just an hour south of the Cancun International Airport on the beautiful Yucatan Peninsula, in the coastline known as the Riviera Maya. This small community with white sandy beaches, sun, surf and swaying palm trees is also a heaven for turtles. The Society of Akumal's Vital Ecology is a non profit organization that is helping to protect the fragile ecosystem of this coastline and their especial communities. Schedule Each day begins with a buffet breakfast at Villas DeRosa, and is followed by: Day Trip 12:00 pm - to - 4:00 pm Exciting outings to explore local culture, and turtle habitats including snorkeling, underwater photography, mayan ruins, Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve, cenotes, boat trips and more... to see the complete camp itinerary day by day click here. Night Watch S.A.V.E. will organize nightly groups to search for mothers turtles laying eggs on Aventuras Akumal stretch of Beach in front of your room. Nests are marked for protection until hatchling, and upon hatching the baby turtles are cared for their rush to the sea.
