The normal daily routine finds campers participating in three individually selected program areas. In addition to a strong waterfront program, YMCA Camp Abnaki offers a wide range of traditional camping activities. Campers will spend their mornings with the cabin group. The focus is to have fun while getting to know your cabinmates. In the afternoon, campers will choose six activities and receive instruction during these activity periods. It's designed to promote activity, fun, and skill development.
Counselors & village staff are chosen for their knowledge of camp life, maturity, sense of values, & understanding of boys. Program specialists are recruited for their expertise in their particular fields, as well as their leadership ability. Each summer, international counselors from many countries join Abnaki's staff. The intercultural sharing which occurs is a vital part of the camping experience.
Our intensive, week-long staff training program includes instruction in group dynamics, skill development, First Aid, & CPR. In keeping with adopted policies of the YMCA, all staff also receive training in how to prevent, identify, & report incidents of child maltreatment.
Camp Abnaki offers organizations the opportunity to get away from the city or office and hold their conference, training, retreat or business functions on beautiful Lake Champlain. Your group can enjoy many options in programming such as waterfront activities, biking, and our climbing wall. You can also choose to cook your own food in our modern dining hall facility or have our staff prepare delicious meals for you. Camp Abnaki is taking reservations for groups during its off season.
