As a parent searching for the right camp for your children, ask yourself: What sets apart the truly outstanding program that encompasses scenic surroundings, the most sought-after camp activities AND the life lessons that all well-rounded children need to balance out their lives? Three words: YMCA CAMP LAKEWOOD.

YMCA Camp Lakewood is not only located on 5,000 beautifully-wooded acres with a private 360-acre lake with a vast array of activities that children absolutely love, but they also teach through example the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Responsibility and Respect.

Through our counselors, children are exposed to various cultures world-wide. From Africa to Australia, as well as right here at home, YMCA Camp Lakewood selects counselors for their personal ethics, morals and values. Y counselors are able to communicate with children on their level and can address a child’s feeling of homesickness or desire to “fit in”. Your child’s welfare is the number one priority of every YMCA counselor, which is balanced with pure fun!

Yes, there’s swimming, horseback riding, climbing tower, zip line, archery, arts & crafts, campfires, and many more amazing activities. But further, YMCA Camp Lakewood believes that campers should experience life lessons via their ABC’s:

Accomplishment: Through various activities, children are encouraged to reach inside themselves to set, accomplish and even exceed goals they set for themselves, with reward of learning that they can do things they didn’t think they could and how good that feels. Remembering these feelings will serve children well into the future when setting goals for education, career and beyond.

Belonging: Making friends is an important part of camp life, and is the perfect setting to learn the skills of being outgoing, blending well with others of all ages, and respect for others’ thoughts and opinions. Camaraderie, the feeling of belonging and being a part of something special are critical self-worth experiences that help shape a child’s positive outlook.

Character:  Having a good moral base from which to draw is a very important component of a well-rounded, well-adjusted and well-balanced child. Camp life is full of opportunities for children to learn good character habits that will last a lifetime.

Oh my goodness do my three kiddos absolutely adore this camp. The 10 year old wants to stay all summer. The counsellors are many returnees but many from international and they are just the most creative brilliant minds I know.
