Alaska is the largest U.S. state by area and the least densely populated state. The entire family will be eager to pack their bags and head to state's 33,000 miles of coastline. Enjoy exciting winter activities, ride on the Alaska Railroad, and explore Alaska's natural outdoor beauty.

Visit the Alyeska Resort, which operates all-season long. Swoosh down the slopes when you ski under blue skies. Grab great views as you and the kids take the chairlift to the top, or take lessons with the professionally trained instructors at the mountain. Are you a dog friendly family? Then you must check out the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race from Anchorage to Nome. Meet some amazing breeds and learn about the tasks they complete and the work that goes into caring for them. Hear the dogs yip and yowl as they take off over the snow for this one-of-a-kind race through the forests and ice.

If you’d rather lay back and enjoy the view, hop onto the Alaska Railroad with stops between Seward and Fairbanks. Check out the glorious peaks, stunning wilderness, icy glaciers, and fields of wildflowers as you rumble by. If you’re in the towns of Talkeetna and Fairbanks, you may have the rare opportunity to view the Aurora Borealis dance across the sky. The Northern Lights astound and delight visitors of all ages. Hop off the train at one of the depot stops and explore an idyllic Alaskan town chock-full of interesting shops kids will want to explore.

Looking for epic hiking and fishing? Head to Kodiak Island to experience family-friendly adventure hikes with gorgeous views you can’t see anywhere else. You won’t have to worry about dinner if you drop your line in and pull out a salmon! You will soon learn that over half of the world’s glaciers lie in Alaska. The best one being the Exit Glacier in Seward—head up to the toe of the glacier for a “touch” of ice that is thousands of years old. Trek into Denali National Park and experience the adventure of a lifetime. You and the kids can catch sight of bears, moose, and maybe even wolves. It is pristine wilderness terrain not seen anywhere else in the world.
