Cambria, California is a fantastic destination if you want to spend some time near the beautiful coastlines. Pass the day away at Moonstone Beach, go for a hike at the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve, or gaze upon a beach filled with elephant seals at the Piedras Blancas Rookery.
Play in the sand and enjoy the sun at Moonstone Beach. Known for being a secluded and peaceful environment, the beach is a great place to relax while the kids build sandcastles and splash around in the water. There is a tide pool ecosystem blossoming with animals, and oftentimes there are chances to see some sea otters. For a perfect way to end the day, you can take a stroll down the one-mile boardwalk, which all runs along the coast.
Hike along the scenic trails of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve. While not the biggest coastal ecosystem, the Ranch offers a lot of biological diversity in a small area, as you and your children can walk among the pine trees as you look out on the ocean and beautiful beaches. It is free and open to the public every day from dawn until dusk.
Check out some elephant seals in the wild at the Piedras Blancas Rookery. The area is home to about 17,000 animals, and is open for viewing every day with no admission fee. During late November and early December you have a chance to see adult male seals fight to dominate a portion of the beach. This is a great attraction to visit, especially for family members and kids who are marine animal lovers.
