Pittsburg, California is situated in the Bay Area, whose influence has provided it with many performing arts venues, an art walk throughout the city, and fresh farmers’ markets. Old Town Pittsburg has a redeveloped marina filled with small, mom and pop shops and restaurants. There's brewing companies, pizza joints, and BBQ, which the whole family will want to dig into. Bring the kids to the 4th of July fireworks show and family festival, which goes off every year. Look at our online directory for Pittsburg and find a summer camp that will bring a smile to your child's face.

Go local and take part in the community through the City of Pittsburg Parks and Recreation department. One of their best parks for kids is Small World Park. It has a slide shaped like a boat, dinosaur rides, well-kept grounds, and a covered wagon to play inside, and a merry go round. Take kids ages 6-12 to Zumba Kids, a dance fitness party, dance games, and development in confidence and leadership. These classes are held once a week at the Buchanan Park Center. At the Buchanan Swim Center, there's also a lap pool for the fish in your family.

Go for a hike at the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve, where the visitor center is intriguingly located in an underground chamber from the 1920s. Stewertville Backpacking Camp is open to families and offers picnic tables, and is only 3.2 miles from the headquarters of the area. Perfect for a family who wants to go out into the wilderness, but not too far! Foxes, deer, and birds of prey may all be spotted, while out on a hike or during a picnic. Kids can also stay close to the visitor center and learn more about abandoned mining towns and old sand mines.

See a popular act at the Creative Arts Building that has housed Stevie Wonder, James Brown, and Ray Charles. Pittsburg High School uses the space for drama, choir, and band classes and local concerts and plays are also performed here. Check out holiday favorites with Ringing in the Holidays or take the family to a fun, live cover band. Perhaps your child's inner thespian or musician will be inspired and they'll be more than excited to sign up for a music or  theater camp.
