Munich is the third largest city after Berlin and Hamburg and would be an incredible choice for any teenager looking for a German adventure to embark on. Search through our summer programs in Munich to find the one suited for your teenager seeking a summer of a lifetime. Teenagers may choose between several travel itineraries to suit their needs and dependent on their age. Most summer abroad programs will begin with lessons in German in the first part of the day, taught by hand-picked native German speakers with a least a university degree in German languages and Teaching German as Foreign Language. The teenager will learn speaking and writing skills, listening, grammar, reading, German culture and history. After spending the morning learning the language, it’s off to the many sites of Munich! A good place to begin site seeing in Munich is at the Neuschwanstien Castle, which was Walt Disney’s inspiration for the Cinderella castle. The Marienplatz – Marie Central Square and the New Town Hall of Munich offer a plethora of spectacular buildings, churches and other notable landmarks. The tower holds the Glockenspiel, a carillon that chimes everyday at noon and also animates the 32 life-sized figures displaying the historical Bavarian events. A large landmark to check out and bring a lunch to is Munich’s Englischer Garden, housing sculptures that are prominently influenced by Asian architecture. It’s must see items are the Chinese pagoda and a Japanese teahouse as well as a Greek temple. The world’s largest museum of science and technology, the Deutsches Museum, is worth a few hours in your itinerary. There are more than 28,000 objects in 50 exhibitions areas which bring 1.5 million visitors every year. The Alten Peter invites you to climb up to the top for a view of Munich from the heart of the city. While visiting the above attractions and more, teenagers will be immersing themselves in the German culture, engaging in everyday conversation with their fellow travelers, locals, tour guides and teachers. Enjoy the German cuisine which would include white sausage and giant pretzels. Optional excursions may include horseback riding, sailing, river rafting, intense survival skills, mountain biking or rock climbing.
