Huntington is a historical town, forty miles from Manhattan, and mostly made up of lovely waterfronts. There are five harbors and nine beaches, made up of coves and bays. This is a perfect place for a family who enjoys relaxing by the water, boating, and other water recreation. It's also easy to commute to New York City on the Long Island Rail Road, if the family wants more bustling excitement. Breathe in the fresh air at Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve, located on a peninsula with miles of paths for biking, jogging, horseback riding, hiking, and even cross-country skiing in the wintertime. These beautiful trails of woodland, meadows, salt marsh, and rocky shoreline once were an English-style estate, hence the well-manicured gardens, as well. Kids can go fishing or take lessons in the polo pony barn. For more historical activities, kids can go to The Whaling Museum and Education Center to learn about the ocean and the artifacts in the museum's collection. The summer and winter camps have fun crafts, exploration stations, and active games.

Make new friends through The Town of Huntington Parks and Recreation summer camp programs. There are eight full-day and half-day programs that are suited for every kind of child and supervised by staff members who have been screened and trained by Huntington's Counselor in Training program. There's Adventure Camp, which has swimming, arts and crafts, sports, and ice skating. Gold Star Camp is held at the beach and includes nature study, sports, arts and crafts, and special events, like a special touch tank with sea stars, crabs, and lobsters. Science Camp has rotating subjects like robots, fossils, and airplanes.

Groove to a new beat at Variations Dance, which has all kinds of dance classes for ages 3-17. There's ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, pointe, and zumba. A special performing class has auditions for Glee: Sing, Dance, and Act, as well. In July, the young dancer's program has a camp full of dancing, arts and crafts, with yummy snacks provided. For the older kids, there is a Music Video Star Camp, where kids can star in their own music video! The week long camp includes voice, dance, acting, stage make-up, and choreography lessons.
