Camp Whatchamakeit (pronounced similar to ‘Camp What you make it’) is a unique opportunity for male and female basketball players in the 6th to 8th grade to enjoy a high energy Christian based basketball camp experience in Colorado that encompasses Life and Leadership skills, while having fun improving their basketball fundamentals. Camp “W” is located on our 10 acre home and tree nursery property in a rural setting in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. It is located in a safe and relaxing environment located 10 minutes west of Ft. Collins, Colorado, which is an hour north of Denver.

Each camp session is 6 days; arriving Sunday afternoon and departing Friday afternoon. The Camp is open to all skill levels and is limited to 20 players each week. The coach to player ratio is 1 coach for every 6 players, allowing us to provide a lot of personal attention to each player. Four “on court” practice days will each consist of 6 hours of instruction and competition focusing on all fundamental aspects of basketball. Special attention will be directed to helping each player improve their shooting form, their “off” hand, their “basketball IQ”, court vision, and “position specific” skills.

Each evening will be spent discussing various aspects of Life and Leadership. Life topics will include relationships with; a non-denominational God, family, and friends. Leadership topics will include discussions of how to develop leadership skills amongst peers and teammates and effective time management. Every camp will include an hour of community service, and an activity day of choices that includes; white water rafting, horseback riding, mountain hiking and fly fishing for trout in the pond on the property.

The goal of Camp Whatchamakeit is to provide each player with a great Life, Leadership and Basketball experience that leads to a lifelong memory of a week spent in Colorado with newfound friends.

Your son or daughter will be nurtured as if they were one of my own. The best compliment I have ever received as a coach was from the father of one of the players. He said “I sent you a girl and you returned her as a confident young woman.” I will endeavor to do the same with your son or daughter!

Randy Pope, Camp Director

Camp Testimonials

"Randy, thanks for all you do. Your approach to discipline, hard
work and perseverance leads to great things for young boys. To
many players you are more than a coach; you are considered a
mentor and a friend. Thank you for truly investing in the future of
our youth.” - Carl and Marla Maxey

"Hannah's journey to the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team has
been guided by excellent coaches and teachers. Randy is one of
that class and his camp will benefit anyone who participates."
- Dave Tuomi

"Each of the two years I went to Camp Whatchamakeit I
dramatically improved my basketball skills. The many lessons I
learned on and off the basketball court at “Camp W” have been
very beneficial to my success today on the Colorado State
University Women’s basketball team." - Meghan Heimstra

“We witnessed Randy’s exceptional ability to develop adolescent
boys from divergent backgrounds into a focused, cohesive team.
They improved their basketball skills tremendously while
simultaneously having fun; however, that was secondary to helping
them all become better young men.” - Arlene and Doug Gibbs

"The whole Camp Whatchamakeit experience opened up an entire
new world for me that I had never thought possible. Before this
camp I never thought I was good enough to play college
basketball."
- Brecca Gaffney, Colorado School of Mines

“After sending our daughters to Camp Whatchamakeit, they came
away with a new level of energy and more passion for the game,
resulting in a better work ethic.” - Ken and Sherri Mackey

"Randy is one of the few coaches I've played for who sincerely
strives to develop talented girls into confident young women, on
and off the floor.” - Alana Curtis, Rocky Mtn. High School

“Randy is excellent at communicating the achievement of high
expectations to our son's basketball team. With humor, hard work,
technical instruction and team involvement he coached the kids to
exceed those expectations.” - Tom Throgmorton

“Randy, Thanks for helping Tricia. You inspired her to be a better
player than she thought she could be and you gave her the most
enjoyable time she has had playing basketball.”
- Chip and Jay Oakes

"Randy played a vital role in our daughter's progress as a player
and more importantly as a young lady. As a High School coach for
28 years I know that Randy does a terrific job in teaching the
fundamentals and concepts of playing basketball at a high level."
- Jim and Jonna Noonan

“Randy’s passion for basketball and enthusiasm for kids is
unmatched. His background and coaching style truly allow players
to develop and enjoy their experience.”
- Heath Alexander, Ass. Women’s Coach, Weber State Univ.
