Experience something totally different this summer and learn how to blow glass with the artists at Diablo Glass School, located just steps away from the Roxbury Crossing T Station in Boston, Ma.

Learning the properties and qualities of glass as a medium combines not only creative education, but incorporates scientific exploration and encourages personal grown. Students gain confidence in their abilities as they conquer the heat of the hot shop, and learn how to visually problem solve.

We have weekly day camps in the summer for teens. They run every week from June to the end of August. During the school year, teens can take classes that run weekly for twelve weeks, some of which offer credit form Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Throughout the year we offer various one day work shops to give students a taste of the medium. Private lessons are great for students looking to learn a lot in a small amount of time.

Diablo Glass School has three different studios, in which students can learn from four different art making techniques with glass.

In the flame shop, students are using a stationary bench torch and various tools to shape and manipulate glass cane. This technique is used for making jewelry and small-scale sculpture. Students who work well independently and have a good sense of focus would enjoy the flame shop.

In the Hot Shop students gather molten glass out of a furnace, and by working as teams, they use gravity, air, and tools to make sculptural and usable works of art.

In the Flat Shop, students collage pieces of hard, room temperature glass on top of one an other and melt it down into unique, flat pieces. From there the flat piece can me molded into dinnerware, artwork, or anything you can imagine. Students also learn stained glass in this studio.
